Sharing the stories of how MPLC folks practice their faith

By David Fanelli

Serving at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church has become a cornerstone of my life, primarily because I’ve come to realize that my most valuable resource isn’t something I can buy—it’s my time. I choose to invest that time back into our community because I believe we are at our best when we are lifting one another up. For me, making life a little easier for someone else isn’t just a nice gesture; it is a core part of my purpose. Whether I am preparing a meal or opening a door, I feel a deep sense of fulfillment knowing that my hands and my presence are contributing to the warmth and strength of our congregation.

Cooking has always been a language of love for me. There is something uniquely rewarding about taking raw ingredients and turning them into a meal that nourishes both the body and the soul. When I cook for the church, I’m not just providing food; I’m providing a space for fellowship and comfort.

Similarly, ushering allows me to lean into my love for people. It gives me the opportunity to connect with fellow parishioners, offer a friendly word, and ensure everyone feels welcome from the moment they step inside. By giving my time in these ways, I hope to reflect the grace we share as a community, proving that even the simplest acts of service can have a lasting impact.

David (pictured with his dog Lulu) is the head chef for MPLC's Men's Breakfast, Easter Breakfast, Confirmation Brunch, Christmas Party, and other special events. When he's not in the kitchen, he's often found on Sunday mornings at the main usher station, welcoming people to worship. Ask David more about his ways of practicing faith through service!
