Midway through building construction, on February 13, 1975, a very cold winter day, the five-ton, 120-foot steel spire was raised by two cranes, lowered through a hole in the roof of the sanctuary, and was secured to its base in the basement. This “Triune Tower” rises from the baptismal font in the sanctuary, reminding worshippers that faith is rooted in our baptism in the name of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

On the same day the steeple was installed, a crane also lowered into place the heavy, five-foot tall safe located in the church workroom. With these necessary items now on board, the roof opening could be finished.

Today in the sanctuary, the steeple is surrounded by three LED “skylights”, reflecting its “Triune Tower” name. The steeple is illuminated outside by rooftop lights at night. On blustery days, you can hear the eerie sound of the steeple vibrating in the wind, adding an appropriate background noise for our “spaceship church”!
